Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine sterile disposable needles into specific points on the body to improve energy, relieve stress, alleviate pain and improve function.
Oriental Medicine refers to the energy force running throughout the body as Qi (roughly pronounced Chee). Qi travels throughout the body along "Meridians" or special pathways. Energy constantly flows up and down these pathways. A person's health is influenced by the flow of Qi in the body. If the flow of Qi is insufficient, unbalanced or interrupted, illness may occur. Acupuncture is used to restore balance to the Qi and to promote healing.
Acupuncture points are specific locations where the Meridians come to the surface of the skin, and are easily accessible by "needling," Acupuncture needles are disposible. They are used once and disgarded in accordance with medical biohazard regulations and guidlines. Moxibustion and Acupressure are completely non-invasive treatments based on Meridian theory that are often used as complementary treatments to Acupuncture.
Herbology
Herbology is a powerful method of balancing vital functions, strengthening physical systems and helping you adapt to the stresses in your life. Drawing from Chinese and European traditions of herbology we offer teas, extracts and patent formula customized to an individual’s needs. Through consultation we determine which herbs are appropriate and safe for you.
Reflexology
A specialized acupressure massage technique for relaxation, stress reduction and promoting self-healing capacity. Reflexology is based on the principle that there are reflexes on the feet that correspond to every system, organ and tissue of the body. These reflex points can be stimulated using an organized, systematic application of pressure and techniques which may facilitate the body’s own healing ability.
It is a gentle and non-invasive form of relaxation that promotes balance of the body, mind and spirit. The combination of relaxation and reflex techniques can interrupt the cycles of stress and create new, healthier cycles of energy through your own autonomic nervous system.
Health Counseling
Nutritional Counseling and Holistic Health Counseling offer assistance to clients regarding health decisions, helping them choose the best foods, herbs and integrative modalities for their individual needs. This tyoe of counseling also coaches individuals concerning how to use integrative approaches most efficiently. .
Cupping
Cupping is treatment method frequently used in conjunction with Acupuncture. Cupping stimulates Acupuncture points by applying suction through a glass jar, in which a partial vacuum has been created. This technique produces blood congestion at the site, and therefore stimulates it.
Moxabustion
Moxibustion involves the treatment of illness by applying heat to Acupuncture points to stimulate the flow of Qi. Acupuncture and Moxibustion are considered complementary forms of treatment, and are commonly used together. Moxibustion is used for ailments such as bronchial asthma, bronchitis, certain types of paralysis, and arthritic disorders.
Massage Therapies
An increasing number of research studies show massage reduces heart rate, lowers blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph flow, relaxes muscles, and improves range of motion. Therapeutic massage can also stimulate weak, inactive muscles and, thus, partially compensate for the lack of exercise and inactivity resulting from illness or injury. It also can hasten and lead to a more complete recovery from exercise or injury.
We often employ Touch for Health Kinesiology in connection with other massage techniques. Touch for Health is a system of manual muscle testing and structural balancing to align posture, alleviate pain and tension which, consequently improves vital function.
